I’m married to Lisa and we have an awesome little girl, Daisy. Our happy little family live in the Tyne valley, just outside Newcastle, in North East England. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, only a stones throw from the stunning Northumberland where I was born and raised. I’m a full-time professional photographer but I haven’t always been. Back in 2003 I graduated from the University of York with a BSc in Chemistry and an MRes in Clean Chemical Technology, but a chemistry career certainly wasn’t for me: I wanted a job where I could make a real difference and I love helping people so I began a career in environmental and community development. After years of helping others and making a real difference to inner city Leeds (Yorkshire) and areas of Hexham (Northumberland) I took the plunge and turned my ‘part time’ photography work into a full time business. A decision that I am so pleased I made as I absolutely love photography and the opportunity to be creative. Having said that my love of all things ‘green’ and my desire to improve the world around me has never gone away, hence me being one of only a handful of professional photographers with such high eco-credentials.
My unique style of wedding photography can be summed up in three words – natural, simple, personal. ‘Natural’ – I do a lot of planning and preparation behind the scene, before every wedding I photograph, so that on the day we can keep things as quick and easy as possible. On the big day I prefer to ‘blend in’, I try to remain in the background so that I am not intruding on your day. In fact, on many occasions guests haven’t actually been sure whether I was another guest or not. I keep formal group photographs to the bare minimum (and am more than happy to do away with these completely if that is what you prefer) so that everyone is free to enjoy the day rather than feeling pressured or stressed. I much prefer to capture people’s natural reactions and emotions as they happen. ‘Simple’ – you’ve put a lot of time and effort into planning and preparing your wedding day, you’ve thought about all the tiny little details and the special touches that make it really personal to you: so when the big day finally comes round I believe you should be free to enjoy all your hard work.
My job is simple, to capture the events and emotions as they happen, giving you a collection of stunning wedding photographs to remember your special day forever – your job is even more simple, kick back and enjoy it! ‘Personal’ – whether you’re a traditional, eco, quirky or vintage couple you should have the freedom to be yourselves on your wedding day. My advice to all brides and grooms out there is always to have fun and do whatever you as a couple want to do; forget about the expectations of others and traditional ‘requirements’ and just plan the day that you want! Those are the kind of weddings that I love to photograph as they are all unique and personal. Please get in touch to discuss your wedding day and how I can get involved by creating a stunning collection of creative wedding photographs for you. No matter how big or small, when or where, I’m sure we can have great fun capturing the emotions and special details in some natural, simple and personal wedding photographs.
