Have you thought about a Doxford Hall wedding?
Have you been to visit yet? Why not? Set within a beautiful private estate and nestled within the stunning Northumberland countryside, this really is a beautiful wedding venue. A Doxford Hall wedding would be set in the historic house hotel offering couples a touch of grandeur on their special day.
So here’s a bit of history about the place:
The first reference to the parish of Doxford was way back in 1296 and the Doxford family appeared on the parish rolls until 1635. In 1817 the owner of the estate (Henry Aynsley, later to be known as Henry Taylor) commissioned John Dobson, the famous Newcastle architect, to build Doxford Hall. Completed in 1818 Doxford Hall is one of his earliest and finest houses.
After Henry Taylor, Doxford Hall and the estate had a few different owners, one of which was the Brown’s of Callaly. These owners made extensive alterations to the hall but were eventually forced out in 1900, thanks to the owners of nearby Ellingham Hall poisoning their water supply (by placing a dead horse in the well) – but don’t worry the water is perfectly fine now!
Further alterations were made by a later owner (Lord Runciman), including the addition of the East Wing and the grand staircase. Northumberland County Council acquired Doxford Hall in 1953 but unfortunately over the next forty years it slowly degraded into a very poor structural state. After extensive restoration to the main hall, the owners set about create a world-class hotel, which opened in 2008.
In 2010, Doxford Hall once again changed hands and yet again the new owners made their mark on this historic building. They renovated the original entrance and added extra bedrooms and a guest lounge.
So back to today:
Doxford Hall wedding venue now boasts a number of suites, all with their own unique charm and oozing character. The front of the building is ideal for my creative wedding photography. The cool estate and gardens are perfect for my natural wedding photography. Doxford Hall weddings could be an intimate gathering or a huge affair, this awesome venue can fit with everyone’s ideas for their special day. The hotel even has a large yew tree maze – although I think maps are available from the reception if you’re a little nervous about getting lost in there!
The next Doxford Hall wedding open day is on Sunday 21st February between 12 & 3pm. I’m really proud to say that they have asked me to be there, to meet couples and share some of my creative wedding photography. So if you are planning your big day why not come along? Have a look around the awesome venue, meet the amazing staff and of course come and have a natter with me! But if you can’t wait that long to chat you can always get in touch in the usual ways – via my Facebook page, on twitter or via my website.
